We all know pizza comes in a box… But now, your local Domino’s store could come in a box too!

Domino’s Pizza Enterprises Ltd (Domino’s) is excited to announce the opening of its first container store globally in Tawa, New Zealand. The Company believes this will be the first of many container stores, as it works to open more kitchens closer to customers right around the world.

“In 2016, Domino’s announced Project 3TEN – a goal to have a freshly made pizza ready for carry-out within three minutes or safely delivered to a customer’s door within 10. Why? Because time is the enemy of food,” Domino’s NZ General Manager Cameron Toomey said.

“A key component to achieving this 10-minute delivery target is to reduce the distance from the store to your door. This means opening more stores, closer to our customers, for improved customer satisfaction.

“Until now we have been constrained by the building stock available to us in a given area; much of which was not suitable to our needs. Now, with the use of container stores, we can enter new areas that we previously couldn’t consider,” Mr Toomey said.

“This is an exciting step for Domino’s, and we are delighted to now be able to bring the world’s best bonding food to the community of Tawa.”

Domino’s Tawa was opened by franchisees Stephan Thudichum and Chris Donnelly, with Stephan stepping up to take the lead and Chris offering support while continuing to run another store in Blenheim.

“I am so excited to not only be opening my first store, but to be opening Domino’s first container store as well. I have worked with Chris since 2009 when I started as a delivery driver, so it is wonderful to have his support as I take this next step in my Domino’s journey,” Mr Thudichum said.

Domino’s has a history of spotting talented team members, developing their skills and helping them to create a lifelong career as a franchisee and small business owner.

“It is wonderful to see such an experienced and established franchisee like Chris Donnelly developing and supporting a team member like Stephan, to help him achieve his dream,” Mr Toomey said.

In terms of layout, the Domino’s Tawa container store is more compact that a regular Domino’s store, with an optimised internal layout. Unlike a standard store, the container store has its customer area outside. Customers place an order at one window and pick-up at the next, so in essence it acts like a drive thru (but with people, rather than vehicles).

“Our Tawa store may look a little different, but our customers can expect the same impeccable product quality and service they would from a normal Domino’s store, including a full range of menu items, friendly team members and Domino’s Zero Contact pick-up and delivery options. We’re also bringing our very distinctive UBCO ebikes to the area. They are not only environmentally friendly but they are quiet too, making us great neighbours,” Mr Thudichum said.

“We can’t wait to get involved in our local community. Supporting the communities in which we operate is something close to our hearts, so we’ll be looking to raise funds for local community organisations through our ‘Doughraiser’ program, and supporting those doing it tough by providing them with a safe, hot meal through our FEED THE KNEAD initiative.”

As Domino’s continues to drive its expansion plans, customers can expect to see more container stores popping up across the Company’s 10 markets, ensuring that customers can enjoy their favourite slice no matter where they are in the world.

The Domino’s Tawa store is located at 24 Main Road and is open from 11am-11pm seven days a week.
